We know you're all starting to think about mulled wine, mince pies, and what to stick on your Christmas list, but while you're perusing all our lovely dive merchandise goodies for your stocking don't forget your gear bag sitting in your garage!

Regular maintenance of your dive gear is utterly essential to ensure it remains reliable and functioning correctly, you will want it to be ready to roll when our dive trips start booking up for the season.If you think back to your early dive courses the instructor will have demonstrated effective post-dive cleaning of your kit as the first step to looking after your gear.

So grab a clothes peg for your nose, open up your gear bag that has sat untouched since your last dive in the summer and give your drysuit, BCD and most importantly your regulators some well-deserved attention.Bring them in to us here in the shop or post them to our centre of excellence at Teign Diving Centre for a full service.

Most manufacturers recommend annual servicing schedules, and many may invalidate warranties if you don't adhere to their servicing frequency recommendations. But the main reason to keep up the servicing of your kit is that your regs are your life support equipment when entering an environment where you cannot survive without them.

If you have not been diving as much due to lockdown and have not used your kit often you may think it will not need a service, however regulators that are not used frequently are possibly more in need of a service, as they can dry out causing O-Rings to harden. All seals in a regulator are under pressure even while not in use, these will bed in over time so it's best to go diving more often to be honest, if you want to book in for the coming season check out our dive sites for inspiration.While you're at it, dig out your dive computer and ensure it is serviced with a new battery ready for your dive season.

If you have used the extra time due to furlough to dive as much as possible, first off, well done!Secondly, when did you last get your kit serviced? Lots of dives equals lots of wear, and while modern dive gear is super reliable the longer you leave it your chances of having a problem increase.Send your regs to us and we can get them stripped down, cleaned thoroughly ensuring any required parts are replaced, then reassemble them, resetting the intermediate pressure and finally we'll get them fully tested and ready to go.
