On the 3 July 1940, during the Second World War, the Royal Navy seized the French personnel carrier Le Poulmic, after the collapse and surrender of the French forces. Le Poulmic was soon put to use by the Navy as a minesweeper and general workboat, and carried out her duties in and around the Plymouth area. On 6th October 1940, whilst carrying out routine minesweeping off Penlee Point, Le Poulmic struck a mine and quickly sank. The wreckage is strewn all over seabed and hard to visualise as a wreck. She its at a depth of 22m.
