Many people are unaware of marine debris, as they believe anything dumped in the sea is out of sight - out of mind.  As divers, we are very aware of the impact marine debris can have.  Disgarded waste can entangle marine life, or be mistaken for food and cause obstructions.  There have been many news articles about beached whales with copious amounts of plastics inside them.  Swimmers and beachgoers can also be affected by toxins given out by the trash.

During the course, you will learn about different types of marine debris and the effects it has on the environment.  You will also learn how to work in teams, clearing debris and collecting data for use in surveys to monitor dive sites.
